Step by Step Guide for Office 365 to Office 365 migration While Keeping the Same Domain Name

Office 365 to Office 365 migration is a process in which you will migrate all data from one Office 365 tenant to another Office 365.

In this migration process, the primary concern of users is to migrate old emails to new tenants. Emails basically reside in Office 365 user mailbox, Admin mailbox, and Office 365 domain user mailboxes. So entire O365 email migration we have to migrate all user’s emails (tenant user’s mailbox, domain users’ mailbox) from One tenant to another.

So in this guide, we are going to provide a solution for Office 365 to Office 365 migration while keeping the same domain name.

Before doing this task, we have to keep one thing in mind the domain can be attached to only one tenant at a time. So to do this migration you have to follow all the given steps.

Basically, this task is divided into four segments, they are –

1 – Perform migration (migrate data from OLD tenant domain to temporary O365 users’ accounts).

2 – Time to Detach domain from OLD Office 365 tenant.

3 – Ready to Attach domain into NEW Office 365 tenant.

4 – Migrate data from Temporary Office 365 users’ mailbox to Domain.

To successfully accomplished, this task follows all the given steps carefully…

1 – Perform Migration (migrate data from OLD tenant domain to temporary Office 365 users’ accounts)

As we know, in the first step we have to migrate the O365 domain users’ mailbox to a new tenant (or temporary mailboxes). But this is not so easy task; we cannot accomplish this task with a manual trick.

We have to use SysTools Office 365 to Office 365 migration tool to successfully perform the migration. Apart from that, this tool can also migrate email from Office 365 to G Suite. Microsoft also suggests using third-party software to perform this O365 migration task.

1: Start the software and select Office 365 as a source and destination. Click on Next.

2: In this screen, you have to select the data (email, contact, calendar, and document) that you want to migrate.

3: Migrate document permission, Use group mapping options also provided. You can enable it if you want to migrate document permission, and group mapping between source & destination Office 365.

4: The date Filter option is also available to migrate selective data. You can apply Date-filter. Click on Next after applying all required options.

5: Now, time to login source & destination Office 365. Enter the Admin email ID & Application ID. Then validate permission.

6: After login into Source Office 365 & Destination Office 365 tenant, we have to create a mapping between source & destination users. To do this, you have to Download the Template.

7:  Now enter source Office 365 source & destination users ID and import CSV file.

8: Users mapped successfully, click on the Validate button to validate permission.

9: Now, click on the Start Migration button to perform Office 365 to Office 365 migration.

After migrating data, we are ready to detach the domain from the old Office 365 tenant. To do this task follow the next step.

 2 – Time to detach domain from OLD Office 365 tenant

Now, it’s time to detach the domain from OLD Office 365 tenant. Follow the given steps to do this task. This is quite simple you have to follow just 4 steps:

1 –  Login admin centre, go to the Setting and select the Domain page.

2 – On the Domain page, select the domain which you want to detach.

3 – Then select remove.

4 – Follow any additional prompts then click on Close.

Now, the domain is successfully detached from OLD Office 365 tenant and ready to attach to the new Office 365 tenant.

3 – Ready to Attach domain into NEW Office 365 tenant.  

We are ready to attach the domain in New Office 365 tenant (where we want to migrate OLD tenant data). Follow the given steps to perform this task.

Step 1: Log in to Admin centre, go to setting & select the Domain page.

2: Select Add Domain.

3: Enter the name of the Domain which you want to add, and click on Next.

4: Choose How you want to verify that domain you own. Select any one option to verify the domain and verify your domain.

Step 5: Choose how you want to make the DNS changes required for Office to use your domain.

1 – Add DNS records for me.

2 – I’ll add the DNS records myself.

Select the option according to your requirements.

Step 6: After that, select Finish.

4 – Migrate data from Temporary Office 365 users’ mailbox to Domain.

This is the final step for Office 365 to Office 365 Migration Guide – While Keeping the Same Domain Name. In this step, we will migrate data from the New tenant (temporary users mailbox) to the newly added domain.

We will do this task with SysTools Office 365 to Office 365 migration tool. The tool is capable to migrate data from Office 365 tenant to the domain within the same Office 365 tenant.
